In a surprising turn of events, Abdullahi Adamu, the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has bid adieu to the political stage. The announcement of his resignation from active politics came during a book launch in Lafia on Saturday. Revealing the reasons behind his decision, Mr. Adamu attributed it to the emergence of “little allergies” towards political engagements and speeches.

The book, titled ‘Progressive Governance: Showcasing the Achievements of His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State 2019–2023’, served as the backdrop for this unexpected declaration.

As the first civilian governor of Nasarawa State, Mr. Adamu took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the author for meticulously outlining the governor’s accomplishments. He also lauded the governor for building upon the achievements of his predecessors, urging stakeholders and residents of the state to continue offering their prayers and support to propel the state to greater heights. Moreover, Mr. Adamu seized the moment to launch 20 copies of the book, each valued at N1 million.

“I am not only a retiree, but I am out of politics. I’m beginning to develop little allergies for political activities now and political speeches,” he confessed, signaling the finality of his decision. “So, forgive me, I will not make any political statement beyond asking for more support for the governor of the state. He needs all your prayers and goodwill to be able to succeed,” Mr. Adamu added, underscoring his belief in the governor’s potential.

In support of the governor’s initiatives, Senator Aliyu Wadada, representing Nasarawa West, hailed the governor’s success in attracting investors to the state. He predicted that the operationalization of these companies would catalyze the creation of numerous employment opportunities, thereby bolstering the state’s revenue.

Adamu’s unexpected departure from the political arena has undoubtedly left many in wonderment, marking the end of an era for a seasoned political figure. His words, infused with candor and humility, serve as a gentle reminder of the transient nature of political careers and the significance of supporting leaders in their quests for progress.
