Akwa United’s Head Coach Resigns: Management Acknowledges Challenges and Seeks Replacement

Akwa United, a prominent Nigerian football club, has accepted the resignation of its head coach, Fatai Osho. The chairman of the club, Paul Bassey, acknowledged the difficulty of finding a suitable replacement for the departing coach.

Bassey expressed gratitude to potential candidates willing to step into the vacant position. He highlighted the global football tradition where coaches, regardless of their capabilities, often bear the brunt of their team’s poor performance.

In a statement to the club’s media, Bassey praised Osho as a competent coach, emphasizing his status as one of the best in the country. He lamented that despite Osho’s skills, his tenure at Akwa United did not yield the expected results.

Osho tendered his resignation following Akwa United’s 1-0 defeat against Heartland in Owerri over the past weekend. During his tenure, the team secured only three victories in 14 games, leading to their current 17th position on the league table.

The club is now tasked with preparing for an upcoming match against Sunshine Stars in Eket. As they navigate this transition, Akwa United seeks a fresh start under new leadership, aiming to reclaim their competitive edge in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
