Court Blocks APC’s Attempt to Replace Suspended Nasarawa Youth Leader

In a significant legal development, the High Court of Nasarawa State has intervened to halt the All Progressives Congress (APC) from initiating proceedings to replace its suspended Youth Leader, Comrade Abdullahi Masi.

Justice Abdullahi Shams Shama, presiding as the vacation Judge, issued the order on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. This order prevents the APC from conducting any election or making any appointments to fill the position of the suspended Youth Leader in Nasarawa State.

Comrade Abdullahi Masi took legal action to thwart the party’s efforts to replace him in his capacity as the youth leader of the APC in Nasarawa State. The lawsuit, marked NSD/LF113/2023, named the APC, the State Chairman of the party, and two others as respondents.

In a landmark judgment delivered on the aforementioned Wednesday, Justice Shama granted an interim injunction, effectively restraining the respondents from replacing Comrade Masi until the motion on notice is resolved.

Comrade Masi, known for his adeptness in youth mobilization, had been suspended from his position by the party a year ago. The allegations against him included misconduct and involvement in anti-party activities.

This court ruling has not only put a temporary halt to the replacement plans but has also drawn attention to the internal dynamics of the APC in Nasarawa State, bringing into focus the complex interplay between the party’s internal discipline and the legal recourse available to its members.

The outcome of this case is eagerly awaited, as it could potentially have far-reaching implications for the internal governance of the APC in Nasarawa State and serve as a precedent for similar cases in the future.
