Philip Shaibu: “Edo 2024 Election Bid Aligned with Divine Plan, Despite Obaseki’s Designs”

In a recent interview on a private television broadcast in Lagos, Philip Shaibu, the deputy Governor of Edo State, expressed his conviction that his decision to run for the gubernatorial position in the 2024 election is backed by divine guidance. Shaibu emphasized that despite the signals from a higher power, Governor Godwin Obaseki has his own agenda for the upcoming election.

Shaibu conveyed a strong message, asserting that the success of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo State governorship race is inherently linked to his candidacy. He underscored the extensive consultations he had undertaken prior to publicly declaring his intention to contest, highlighting his consultation with various individuals and groups within and beyond Edo State. Additionally, Shaibu emphasized his recourse to prayer, seeking divine guidance and receiving affirming signs that emboldened his resolve to pursue his gubernatorial aspirations.

The deputy Governor’s forthright warning signaled a resolute stance, as he asserted, “If my party wants to win the election in Edo State, they should give it (ticket) to Philip Shaibu, but if they want to lose, they should give it to somebody else, not because I am a superstar but because I have the content, I have the quality, I have the experience.”

Shaibu’s declarations illuminate a potentially contentious and intriguing political landscape in Edo State, with the 2024 election poised to be a pivotal juncture in the state’s governance. The stark contrasts in perspectives between Shaibu and Obaseki inject a compelling dynamic into the unfolding narrative of Edo State’s political future, portending significant ramifications for the state and its populace.
