NYSC Clarifies: Katsina Corps Member’s Death Not Attributed to Bandits

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has debunked reports suggesting that Mamudo Obaje, a corps member serving in Katsina State, Nigeria, was killed by bandits. According to the NYSC’s Director for Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, Obaje’s demise on January 4th was a result of a road accident and not an attack by bandits while en route from Kaduna to Katsina for his monthly biometric clearance.

Mr. Megwa clarified that the unfortunate incident occurred near Gayaza in the Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State when the vehicle, carrying Obaje and other passengers, was involved in a fatal road accident. Regrettably, the corps member and two other passengers lost their lives in the tragic accident.

The NYSC, plunged into mourning by this unfortunate event, extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased corps member. Emphasizing the need for factual reportage, Mr. Megwa urged bloggers to uphold the standards of journalism, highlighting that unfounded and unprofessional publications can instigate unnecessary apprehension within society and run counter to the principles of ethical journalism.
