On Monday, Brig-General Y. D. Ahmed was officially appointed as the new Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during a handover ceremony in Abuja. He succeeded Christy Uba and expressed his commitment to elevating the organization to new heights. Ahmed introduced a five-point agenda focused on key areas: security, creating a conducive environment, strengthening stakeholder engagement, enhancing capacity building, and deepening the impact of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program.
In his address, Ahmed assured attendees, “I will not only sustain the high tempo, but collectively, we will take the scheme to greater heights.” He emphasized that his administration would be transparent and would prioritize strategies aimed at improving the overall operations of the NYSC. The five key policy initiatives he outlined include: enhancing security and welfare for corps members and staff to ensure optimal service delivery; providing an enabling environment for research and development to advance the scheme; strengthening stakeholder engagement to promote the scheme’s frontiers; enhancing capacity building to boost efficiency and corporate performance; and deepening the impact of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program.
Ahmed urged the staff to collaborate with him in order to achieve greater success for the NYSC. In response, Uba assured him that the management team and all staff members would extend their full support to facilitate his success. She acknowledged the demanding nature of NYSC operations but expressed confidence that their collective experience, loyalty, and passion for the job would help them overcome challenges and achieve success in all endeavors.
