Nigerian Striker Victor Osimhen Tipped for AFCON 2023 Stardom

In a prelude to the much-anticipated 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Rulani Mokwena, the head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, has singled out Victor Osimhen as a player to watch. Osimhen, the current CAF Player of the Year, is poised to lead the Super Eagles in their quest for glory in Ivory Coast.

At 25 years old, Osimhen’s prowess as a striker came to the fore last season when he notched 26 goals, powering Napoli to a historic Scudetto title. Notably, he also emerged as the top goal scorer during the AFCON qualification campaign, netting 10 goals.

Mokwena expressed his confidence in Osimhen, stating, “Victor Osimhen is one player who is in great form and we have seen his abilities in front of goal. He leads the line confidently and scores lots of great goals and in tournaments like this you need goals.”

Adding to his insights, Mokwena highlighted the exceptional abilities of Achraf Hakimi, tipping the player to change the course of games, and he also expressed high expectations for Mohammed Kudus to make an impression during the tournament.

As the AFCON 2023 draws near, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Victor Osimhen, as he carries the weight of expectations as one of Africa’s standout talents. His performance on the continent’s biggest stage could potentially leave an indelible mark in the annals of African football.
