IGP Commends EFCC Partnership: Promises Enhanced Support

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, expressed pride in the Nigeria Police Force’s association with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), referring to it as a “good child of the Police.” The statement came during a courtesy visit by EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Egbetokun pledged continued and amplified support for the EFCC, emphasizing, “We are proud to have the EFCC as our child. We will continue to support you.”

In response, Olukoyede praised the police for their role in nurturing the EFCC and highlighted the strong collaboration between the two agencies. He also appealed for further support and cooperation, given the specialized nature of their work.

Seeking to streamline operations, Olukoyede proposed the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the police and the EFCC, aimed at avoiding duplicative investigations. “There is no need to dissipate energy investigating similar cases. We can come up with an MoU to properly address such issues,” he stated.

The meeting underscored the significance of inter-agency collaboration in combating financial crimes in Nigeria, and the commitment of both the police and the EFCC to work in tandem for the country’s benefit.
