Man Faces Trial for Alleged Cannabis Possession in Abuja

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) brought a 30-year-old man, Danladi Saidu, before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday. He stands accused of possessing 20 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as Marijuana. Through an interpreter, Mr. Saidu pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge presented to him.

The prosecuting counsel, C.P Onyedeke, requested the court to schedule a trial date following the defendant’s plea. She also urged the court to detain Saidu at the Kuje Correctional Centre until the hearing and determination of a bail application.

Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, the presiding judge, adjourned the case until February 23 for trial.

The charge against Saidu alleges that he was apprehended on July 11, 2023, along the Abaji-Lokoja expressway in possession of the narcotic substance without lawful authority.

This development signifies the ongoing efforts by the NDLEA to curb drug-related offenses and enforce drug control measures.

This case holds significance within the broader context of drug enforcement and legal proceedings, shedding light on the regulatory efforts and judicial processes aimed at addressing narcotics possession.

Stay tuned for further updates on this trial as it unfolds.
