Super Eagles Soar High with Victory Over Côte d’Ivoire

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have reignited their pursuit for a fourth title in the African Cup of Nations with an impressive 1-0 victory over the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire. The Group A match, which took place at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium near Abidjan, saw the Super Eagles demonstrate resilience and skill, propelling them from third to second place in the group standings and greatly boosting their chances of advancing to the second round.

The game’s only goal was calmly scored by the match captain, William Troost-Ekong, from the penalty spot in the 55th minute. The penalty was awarded after a foul on Victor Osimhen by Ousmane Diomande, with Algerian referee Mustapha Ghorbal making the decision after a review through the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system.

With this crucial win, Nigeria now only requires a draw in their final group stage match against Guinea Bissau to secure a spot in the second round. The current Group A standings are as follows:
