The Federal Government, through the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, has called on Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to prioritize continuous improvement in their Quality Management Systems (QMS) for service delivery. This appeal was made by Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Head of Civil Service, following the official presentation of an International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 9001:2015 QMS certificate. The certificate was presented by Adedoyin Odunfa, the Managing Director of Digital Jewels Africa, during a ceremony held on Monday in Abuja.

According to a statement released to our correspondent on Tuesday, the certification was awarded after the commission met all the requirements set forth by the International Independent Certification Authority in Canada. In her acceptance speech, Dr. Yemi-Esan emphasized that compliance with ISO 9001:2015 signifies the maintenance of standards throughout the three-year certification cycle. She noted that certification is not merely an endpoint but a means to achieve ongoing improvements in service quality.

Dr. Yemi-Esan expressed her pleasure that the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation is the first and only core MDA to attain ISO certification within the public sector. She remarked that this certification empowers the office to consistently deliver quality, innovative, efficient, and people-centered services in alignment with international standards and recommended practices. Furthermore, she stated that the OHCSF will henceforth be recognized as a Centre of Excellence globally, as the ISO 9001:2015 QMS certification is the most recognized standard for QMS worldwide. It provides the necessary framework and guidance for organizations to meet stakeholders’ expectations, comply with regulatory requirements, and demonstrate continuous improvement.

In her remarks, the Head of Civil Service encouraged the staff of the OHCSF to leverage this certification to realize its vision and mission of transforming into a world-class service. She also urged other MDAs to follow suit to elevate the quality of service across the sector. Additionally, it was reported that Dada Adeniyi, the Director of ICT in the OHCSF, was certified as a QMS Manager, while seven other civil servants received certification as Team Leads for various projects.
