Wilfred Ndidi Applauds Super Eagles’ Triumph in AFCON 2023 Group Stage

Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi has expressed his delight at the Super Eagles’ impressive performance during the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The team has successfully secured a spot in the Round of 16, showcasing their strength in the competition.

Under the leadership of Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles clinched a 1-0 victory against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau, solidifying their position among the advancing teams. Despite finishing second in Group A, behind Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria’s advancement has been a cause for celebration.

Ndidi, initially named in Nigeria’s AFCON 2023 squad but substituted by Alhassan Yusuf due to injury, has voiced his support for the team. The Leicester City midfielder, while expressing disappointment at his absence, remains optimistic about the team’s prospects in the tournament.

“It was really disappointing not to be there, but I’m thrilled for the team because this has been our goal since last year, to compete in the AFCON,” Ndidi shared with Sky Sports. “Our aim has always been to progress to the final. We aimed to win games that would propel us to the next stage.”

As the journey continues, the Super Eagles are set to encounter their perennial rivals, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, in the Round of 16 on Saturday.

The solid performance of the Super Eagles, coupled with Ndidi’s unwavering support, sets the stage for an exhilarating and fiercely contested match as the AFCON 2023 unfolds.
