In a virtual meeting with the Super Eagles ahead of their AFCON last-16 clash against Cameroon, Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Owan Enoh, emphasized the nation’s fervent desire for victory in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Enoh admonished the team to stay resolute and not succumb to the allure of social media during this crucial stage of the tournament. He urged the players to disregard online distractions, including WhatsApp messages, to maintain unwavering concentration on their matches.

“Please listen to the coach [Jose Peseiro]. Don’t lose focus, let your eyes remain on the ball. I will further suggest that at a moment like this forget about social media. Don’t even look at your WhatsApp messages anymore so that you don’t lose concentration. You are going to find a lot of comments by Nigerians that are too eager to have you continue to win,” stated Enoh.

He implored the team to seize the opportunity to etch their names in Nigerian sporting history by securing a fourth AFCON title, highlighting the significance of their potential triumph in the nation’s sports legacy. Enoh envisioned a future where the players would be celebrated for their remarkable achievement in clinching the AFCON trophy for the fourth time, emphasizing the enduring impact of such a historic feat.

With the impending showdown against Cameroon, the Minister stressed the importance of using each match as a platform for self-improvement, rallying the team to elevate their performance with every opportunity.

As the Super Eagles brace themselves for the crucial faceoff, Enoh’s impassioned plea encapsulates the collective hopes and aspirations of millions of Nigerians, underscoring the weight of expectations riding on the team’s shoulders as they strive for AFCON glory.
