In an effort to bolster access to quality Islamic education for children, the Jigawa state government has greenlit a N532 million budget to fund the construction of classrooms in 132 Islamic schools across the region.

At the conclusion of the State Executive Council meeting in Dutse, the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa, announced the approval. This move underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing learning opportunities for young learners within the state.

The decision to allocate this substantial sum was made following a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Basic Education, seeking approval for the award of contracts aimed at constructing classrooms in the aforementioned 132 Islamic schools. The allocated amount forms part of the 2024 constituency projects, signifying a forward-looking approach to infrastructure development in the educational sector.

Furthermore, the State Executive Council gave its stamp of approval to the recommendations of the white paper committee on Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia. It instructed the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology to take action in implementing the outlined propositions within the institution.

A significant outcome of the meeting was the authorization of a five-member Interim Management Committee for four tertiary institutions in the state. These establishments encompass the College of Education in Gumel, the College of Education focusing on Legal and Islamic Studies in Ringim, Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic in Hadejia, and Jigawa State Polytechnic in Dutse. This decision aims to ensure seamless operations within these academic institutions for a period of one year, pending the appointment of permanent management by the state government.

This substantial governmental outlay demonstrates a proactive approach to educational development, underscoring the state’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment for its youth as they embrace Islamic education.
