Denmark Commits to Bolstering Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen of Ethiopia met with Danish Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy Dan Jorgensen to discuss strengthening the bond between their nations. Mekonnen highlighted Ethiopia’s dedication to combatting climate change through the Green Legacy Initiative, which has seen billions of seedlings planted in the country over the past four years.

Mekonnen emphasized Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to a carbon-free planet and its endeavors to foster peace and accountability within the nation. He also revealed the government’s efforts to finalize a comprehensive transitional justice policy aimed at ensuring accountability, healing, and reconciliation.

Moreover, Mekonnen urged stakeholders to provide concrete support for Ethiopia’s commendable Green Legacy Initiative.

In response, Danish Minister Dan Jorgensen affirmed Denmark’s keen interest in collaborating with Ethiopia to address climate change and expressed his country’s readiness to support the Green Legacy Initiative. Jorgensen’s pledge aligns with Ethiopia’s vision for a sustainable and green future, showcasing the global significance of Ethiopia’s efforts in environmental conservation.
