The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Rivers State has reported the abduction of its campaign director for the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Boma Brown, by suspected political thugs during a scheduled rally on Tuesday. The party has accused the police of complicity, asserting that officers were present at the venue when the attack occurred. Tonye Cole, the APC’s governorship candidate, revealed this incident to the media, stating that the thugs invaded the campaign venue, fired shots indiscriminately, and forcibly took Brown away. In light of the increasing political violence, Cole has called for a state of emergency in Rivers State.

Darlington Nwauju, the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, condemned the incident as yet another barbaric attack on democracy. He noted that security operatives assigned to both Cole and Dr. Dakuku Peterside, the former Director-General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, played a crucial role in rescuing Brown. Nwauju emphasized that political parties should be allowed to campaign freely and that voters should have the right to choose their candidates without intimidation.
