Nationwide Electricity Supply Decline Explained by Power Minister Adelabu

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has provided insight into the reasons behind the reduced electricity supply across the country. Adelabu attributed the drop in power supply to gas constraints affecting thermal generating companies nationwide. In a statement released by Bolaji Tunji, the Minister’s special adviser on strategic communication and media relations, Adelabu highlighted the government’s efforts to address outstanding payments to power generation companies, aiming to resolve the declining electricity supply.

Adelabu emphasized, “This is mainly due to a decreased gas supply to generation companies, leading to a lower level of energy supplied to load centres and impacting the electricity supply to distribution companies. Resolving outstanding payments will enable distribution companies to supply more electricity to Nigerians. We acknowledge the unsustainable situation and expect a turnaround immediately.”

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had previously linked the drop in bulk power supply to gas constraints. As a result, Electricity Distribution Companies nationwide issued apologies to consumers for the decline in power supply.

The disclosure by Minister Adelabu sheds light on the critical factors influencing the energy landscape, underscoring the urgent need for sustainable solutions to ensure consistent and reliable electricity supply for all Nigerians.
