Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the representative of Anambra South in the National Assembly, has put forward a compelling vision for the future of Anambra’s governance. In a recent address to journalists in Nnewi, he made a bold call to the people of Anambra, urging them to entrust him with their mandate in the upcoming 2025 governorship election. The central focus of his plea is the need to address the state’s longstanding leadership issues.

The senator, a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), is advocating for a single term of four years, during which he vows to revolutionize governance in Anambra. One of his key pledges is to swiftly conduct Local Government Area elections within four months of assuming office. This, he believes, will foster increased political engagement at the grassroots level and allocate Local Government Area funds for competitive and decentralized development initiatives.

Ubah’s proposed local government elections would not only help in decentralizing development but also ensure that local government funds are readily available, empowering them to drive grassroots progress. He envisions a shift of focus from the state to the grassroots, with the state government playing a supervisory role over local governments.

Expressing his discontent with the state of governance in Anambra over the past 18 years, Senator Ubah emphasized his commitment to injecting an unprecedented 80 percent of new ideas and strategies into the state’s governance structure. He highlighted the urgency to bolster commerce and elevate the health sector to attract medical tourism, all while accelerating community development through local government elections.

The senator underscored the need to veer away from supporting individuals with inflated egos and instead advocate for those with genuine passion and a proven track record. He firmly believes that his unwavering dedication to his manifesto since 2013 reflects his steadfast commitment to transforming the governance landscape in Anambra.

Senator Ubah, who has successfully clinched the Senate seat twice as a representative of the Young Progressives Party, a minority party, exuded confidence in his ability to wrest power from the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). He also lamented the recent discord between the Prof. Chukwuma Soludo government and traditional rulers in Anambra, emphasizing the need for unity and respect within the traditional institution.

As Senator Ubah charts his course towards the governorship election, his message resounds with a promise of transformative leadership. His vision for Anambra’s future governance seeks to mitigate the shortcomings of the past and usher in a new era of progress, prosperity, and unity for the state.
