The Yobe state government has taken decisive action, closing seven private health-related training institutions and clinics across the state. Dr. Yusuf Ngamdu, the Executive Secretary of YOHFIMA, revealed that these establishments were operating unlawfully by providing certificates and delivering clinical services in excess of legal boundaries.
The affected facilities include Medical Career Guidance and North-East Biotech Services Limited in Potiskum, Public Health Consultancy Services in Potiskum, and Auxiliary International Health Sciences Academy in Nguru. Additionally, Iqmi International Modern School Study Centre in Potiskum, Aminci Nursing Home and Maternity in Damaturu, and an unnamed radio-diagnostic center opposite the Primary Healthcare Centre in Dogon-Zare, Potiskum, were also shut down.
Dr. Ngamdu urged residents to be cautious and discerning about these facilities, emphasizing the importance of curbing malpractice in the health sector. Furthermore, he warned both public and private healthcare providers in the state against hiring graduates from these illegitimate training institutions, stressing that any breaches would result in penalties. He also encouraged all healthcare facilities in the state to register with the agency and strictly adhere to its regulations.
