The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is making a groundbreaking proposal to partner with the Nigeria Police in a bid to refurbish and convert their operational vehicles to cleaner energy sources.
During a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, NASENI’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Khalil Halilu, emphasized the pivotal role of the Nigeria Police in ensuring the security of lives and property, which necessitates efficient transportation assets for swift response to security emergencies.
Under this proposed collaboration, NASENI aims to provide the necessary financing and technical expertise to achieve two primary objectives: revamping and modernizing the Nigeria Police vehicle maintenance workshops nationwide, and restoring and activating all non-operational police vehicle assets.
Mr. Halilu highlighted NASENI’s commitment to enhancing national security in alignment with the agenda of the Federal Government, stating that the partnership will significantly enhance the Nigeria Police’s capacity to fulfill their duty of safeguarding lives and property.
In addition to bolstering national security, NASENI’s partnership with the Nigeria Police will contribute to the country’s climate action efforts by facilitating the conversion of petrol and diesel-powered vehicles to cleaner forms such as electric and CNG-powered vehicles. Emphasizing a commitment to local content, the initiative will prioritize the use of locally manufactured components and materials, creating employment opportunities and fostering skill acquisition. Furthermore, the revitalized workshops are projected to generate surplus income to fund ongoing maintenance of police vehicles.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Egbetokun, expressed enthusiasm and pledged support for the collaboration, recognizing its potential to positively impact the operations of the Nigeria Police. He further assured NASENI of support in the security domain to facilitate the fulfillment of its mandate.
