Low Voter Turnout Plagues Delta State Rerun Election

The rerun election for the Delta State House of Assembly, Ethiope-West Constituency, suffered from a disappointing lack of voter participation on Saturday. Media Talk Africa’s correspondent observed low voter turnout in the Oghara, Mosogar, and Jesse Communities of Ethiope-West Local Government Area.

Despite the presence of security personnel and INEC ad-hoc staff, there was a noticeable lack of enthusiasm among voters. INEC Electoral Officer in Ethiope-West Local Government Area, Mrs. Beauty Ibiama, confirmed the early distribution of sensitive election materials and the commencement of voting at 8:30 am. She clarified that the people seen going about their business were from areas where the elections did not take place.

The INEC covered five wards, including Mosogar I & II, Jesse V, and Oghara I & II during the rerun election. Mrs. Ibiama also verified that there were no reported incidents of ballot snatching or electoral violence to the best of her knowledge.

As of the time of reporting, the elections are yet to conclude.
