Namibia Mourns the Passing of President H.E Dr. Hage G. Geingob

Windhoek — The Republic of Namibia is in mourning as it grieves the loss of Dr. Hage G. Geingob, the esteemed President, who passed away on Sunday, 4th February 2024. Dr. Geingob, surrounded by his wife, Madame Monica Geingos, and his children, breathed his last at Lady Pohamba Hospital at approximately 00h04, despite the dedicated efforts of his medical team to save his life.

The nation has bid farewell to a remarkable leader, a symbol of the liberation struggle, the primary architect of the Namibian constitution, and a cornerstone of the Namibian nation. As we navigate this moment of profound sorrow, I urge the citizens to maintain composure as the government orchestrates the essential state arrangements, preparations, and protocols. Future updates in this regard will follow.

As we hold the President’s grieving family and the people of Namibia in our thoughts and prayers, the Cabinet will promptly assemble to institute the requisite state procedures. May the soul of our beloved Dr. Hage G. Geingob rest in eternal peace.

H.E. Dr. Nangolo Mbumba
Acting President of the Republic of Namibia
