Nigerian weightlifting duo, Rafiatu Folashade Lawal and Adijat Adenike Olarinoye, are geared up to compete for gold and silver medals in the 59kg women’s category at the ongoing 2024 Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship in Egypt. A statement from Amaechi Agbo, the Media Officer of the Nigerian Weightlifting Federation, highlighted their previous success at the 2023 edition in Tunisia, where they clinched three gold and three silver medals. The championship, which commenced with an opening ceremony on Sunday, also serves as a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Nigerian contingent, consisting of four lifters and four officials, arrived in Cairo for the prestigious event. Lawal and Adenike, set to compete at 4 pm Nigerian time, are poised to vie for medals that will not only mark their success in 2024 but also secure their spots at the upcoming Olympic Games.
