Governor Vows to Tackle Soaring Prices, Seeks Intervention from Political Leader

Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano state has expressed deep concern over the economic hardships faced by Nigerians, particularly in his state. He has pledged to personally meet with President Bola Tinubu to address the dire economic situation affecting the people of Kano.

During a meeting with the state’s business community at the government house, Governor Yusuf highlighted the alarming rise in commodity prices, placing immense strain on the common citizen. He emphasized that escalating food prices have led to hunger and hardship for many, including civil servants in the state.

To combat this crisis, the governor has promised to work closely with the business community to find solutions for reducing the prices of essential goods, especially as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.

Governor Yusuf expressed disbelief at the exorbitant prices, citing examples such as local rice being sold at N3,000 per measure and maize at N1,500 per measure. He stressed the urgency of addressing these issues, as they are affecting ordinary citizens and businesses.

Noting the challenges posed by high exchange rates, Governor Yusuf urged for collective efforts to alleviate the suffering of the less privileged, stressing the vital role of the business community in this endeavor.

The governor announced his intention to meet with President Tinubu to seek his intervention, recognizing the gravity of the situation and the need for immediate action.

In addition, Governor Yusuf called upon rice millers and farmers to consider subsidizing their commodities for the benefit of the general populace and implored farmers to refrain from hoarding grains, especially with Ramadan on the horizon. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that grains are sold at affordable prices to alleviate the burden on the people.
