A demonstration erupted in Minna as scores of women and youth voiced their outrage over the exorbitant cost of living in Nigeria. The protesters also decried the erratic power and water supply in the state capital.
The protest commenced at 7am, causing a blockade on the bustling Minna – Bida Road and disrupting vehicular movement to and from Niger state capital. The demonstrators wielded placards with poignant messages such as ‘No Food,’ ‘We are Dying of Hunger,’ and ‘Save Our Families.’
Amid the commotion, numerous travelers and employees of the National Examination Council (NECO) and the Federal University of Technology Minna found themselves unable to reach their workplaces, leading many to retreat to their homes. While the exact organization behind the protest remains unconfirmed, some protesters brandished fresh leaves, emphasizing the toll of high living costs on their families.
Law enforcement attempted to scatter the protesters, but their efforts were met with defiance as the demonstrators repelled their advances.
