In a bid to address the rampant misuse of sirens on Nigerian roads, the House of Representatives has called upon the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the Nigerian Police Force to uphold and enforce legislation governing the use of sirens. The lawmakers further urged law enforcement agencies to crackdown on individuals utilizing sirens unlawfully across the nation.
The resolution stems from a motion presented by Jesse Onuakalusi (LP-Lagos) during a plenary session in Abuja. Titled “Need to Check the Abuse of the Use of Siren on Nigeriaā€™s Roads,” the motion highlights the exploitation of sirens by criminal elements to instill fear and terror in society. Mr. Onuakalusi emphasized the detrimental impact of this misuse on security assessment, noting the difficulty in distinguishing between authorized siren usage and imposters.
The House also mandated the Committees on Federal Road Safety Commission and Police Affairs to ensure strict adherence to these directives, signifying a firm stance on the issue. This move underscores the growing global concern over the misuse of emergency sirens, resonating with communities worldwide striving for enhanced road safety and security.
