Vice-President Shettima Shows Unwavering Support for Nigeria’s Super Eagles at AFCON

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has embarked on a trip from Abuja to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire to bolster President Bola Tinubu’s support for the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles. The spokesperson for the vice-president, Mr Stanley Nkwocha, confirmed this departure in a statement from Abuja. Shettima’s visit was at the behest of Tinubu, and it comes at a crucial time as the Super Eagles are set to face South Africa in the semi-final of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake, Côte d’Ivoire.

Nkwocha emphasized that Shettima’s presence would serve to strengthen the profound connection between football and national identity in Nigeria. Not only will his support inspire the Super Eagles on the field, but it will also stand as a unifying force for the millions of Nigerians cheering from their homes. The Super Eagles’ impressive performance in the group stages and their thrilling victory in the quarter-final have solidified their position as strong contenders for the AFCON title. As this marks their 15th semi-final appearance, Nigeria holds the record for the most appearances at this stage. The team will strive to replicate their success from 2013 when they emerged as champions in South Africa.

Nkwocha also highlighted that Shettima’s visit to Côte d’Ivoire serves as a powerful call for national unity and support.
