Zamfara Sports Council Urges Timely Completion of Stadium Renovation

The Zamfara State Council of Sports is intensifying efforts to ensure the swift completion of the renovation of the Sardauna Memorial Stadium. This comes as the home matches of the Zamfara United Football Club have been relocated to Sokoto State, causing inconvenience to the team’s supporters.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) made the decision to move the State Football Club’s home matches to Sokoto State stadium due to the ongoing renovation of the Sardauna Memorial Stadium in Gusau, the State capital. This has raised concerns among the supporters who are unable to afford the travel to Sokoto.

In a press briefing, the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Council of Sports, Hon. James Ishiaku, expressed confidence that the team will return to play its home matches at the Sardauna Memorial Stadium within the next few months. He emphasized that Governor Dauda Lawal has been actively monitoring the progress of the renovation project and has shown satisfaction with the work done by the contractors.

“I have personally assessed the ongoing renovation work, and I am highly optimistic that the stadium will be fully ready for all sporting activities in the State within a few months. Despite playing our home matches in Sokoto State, the players have demonstrated outstanding performance,” stated Hon. James Ishiaku.

He also highlighted the government’s commitment to sports development in the State, noting that all outstanding entitlements of the players have been settled, resulting in the team’s impressive performance in recent games.

The concerted efforts of the Zamfara State Council of Sports underscore the significance of the timely completion of the stadium renovation to alleviate the challenges faced by the football club and its supporters.
