U.S. Official to Attend African Union Summit in Ethiopia

The Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Phee, is scheduled to visit Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from February 12-17, 2024. She will be accompanied by a delegation including Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Ambassador Mike Hammer, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator Dr. John Nkengasong, and other senior U.S. Government officials. The purpose of their visit is centered around the African Union (AU) Summit, where they plan to engage with AU officials, heads of state, and ministers in attendance. Additionally, Assistant Secretary Phee will hold discussions with Government of Ethiopia officials to address bilateral and regional matters.

The United States emphasizes the significance of a robust African Union and commends the AU’s leadership on the global stage. The U.S. cherishes its strong partnership with the AU, its member states, and the people of Africa. Both parties are committed to collaborating on shared global priorities, including promoting openness and democratic societies, enhancing security, fostering economic opportunities, preventing and responding to pandemics, and supporting conservation, climate adaptation, and a just energy transition.
