Yobe Business Community Organizes Special Prayer for Relief from Economic Hardships in Nigeria

The United Marketers Association Potiskum (UMAPO) in Nigeria’s Yobe state recently organized a special prayer gathering at Government Day Secondary School playground in Potiskum town. The purpose was to seek divine intervention in the face of challenging economic conditions that have led to high inflation and a steep rise in the cost of living.

Dozens of individuals, including men, women, children, and religious scholars, attended the event, coming together for two units of congregational prayer. The initiative aimed to find solace in faith in the midst of what appears to be an intractable economic crisis.

Speaking to reporters at the venue, Nasiru Alhaji Mato, the Executive Chairman of UMAPO Potiskum, highlighted the pressing need for divine intervention amidst the current economic hardships. He emphasized the importance of seeking divine guidance and forgiveness during times of adversity, particularly when faced with escalating living costs and widespread hunger.

Mato pointed out that the removal of fuel subsidies has triggered a surge in the prices of essential goods, exacerbating the already challenging circumstances, especially in a country grappling with high unemployment rates. In response to inquiries about the effectiveness of the government’s palliative measures, Mato suggested that these are temporary and insufficient for addressing the root causes of the economic turmoil.

He urged the federal, state, and local governments to establish a committee dedicated to formulating sustainable solutions aimed at stabilizing the economy and alleviating the burden of high living costs faced by the people of Nigeria.
