VP Shettima to Lead Presidential Delegation to AFCON Finals in Côte d’Ivoire

Abuja, Nigeria – Vice-President Kashim Shettima has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu to head a presidential delegation to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Côte d’Ivoire. The finals, set to take place at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Sunday, February 11, will feature the Super Eagles taking on the hosts, Côte d’Ivoire.

Stanley Nkwocha, the vice president’s spokesman, announced this directive on Saturday in Abuja. The decision comes in the wake of Nigeria’s 1-0 victory against the hosts in the group stage through a penalty secured by William Troost-Ekong. This match is anticipated to bring back the memories of that triumph.

Mr. Nkwocha highlighted that Mr. Tinubu’s choice of Mr. Shettima and the delegation to attend the finals underscores the government’s unwavering support for the team and its commitment to their success. He further urged all Nigerians, at home and abroad, to unite in solid support for the Super Eagles. The government also called for a national display of encouragement and pride to propel the team to glory.

Shettima had previously represented the President at the semi-finals, during which the Eagles defeated South Africa in a pulsating encounter.
