Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu recently paid a condolence visit to the family of Prof. Uche Ikonne, a former Vice Chancellor of Abia State University and the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the recent governorship election, who passed away. Describing the death as shocking, Ikpeazu, accompanied by his wife, Nkechi, expressed his regret that all efforts to save Ikonne were unsuccessful.

In a statement released on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, the governor praised the former vice chancellor as a good and fearless man. He expressed hope that a glorious life awaits Ikonne in the afterlife and encouraged his wife, Uzoamaka Ikonne, who serves as the State Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, along with their first son, Dr. Chike Uche-Ikonne, and other family members, to find solace during this difficult time.

Governor Ikpeazu further noted that his admiration for Prof. Uche Ikonne’s forthrightness, courage, record of service, experience, and dedication to Abia State led him to choose Ikonne as a worthy successor for the governorship position starting May 29, 2023. In response, Dr. Chike Ikonne thanked the governor on behalf of the family for his support during their time of grief and acknowledged the family’s acceptance of their loss as God’s will. Before departing, the governor signed the condolence register at the residence.
