As Valentine’s Day approaches, Nigeria witnesses a surge in the demand for intimate accessories, sexy lingerie, and delectable cakes despite economic hardships. News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) findings reveal a growing enthusiasm among Nigerians for celebrating love.
Temi Ogunleye, a boutique owner in Novare Shopping Mall, Sangotedo, noted a significant uptick in the sale of adult toys. She remarked that couples and youths are demonstrating a more adventurous attitude towards intimacy, expressing a desire to explore new experiences together.
Similarly, Toyin Adekunle, an adult store owner in Ajah, emphasized the unprecedented demand for intimate products, ranging from discreet vibrators and handcuffs to more adventurous bondage gear. Adekunle highlighted the evolving openness towards sexuality and the eagerness to experiment with new sensations and experiences.
In addition to intimate products, bakers in Lagos are witnessing a surge in orders for Valentine’s Day-themed cakes. Akinwale Adegoke, a pastry chef, observed that wearing lingerie and enjoying delicious cakes are ways for couples to express their love and affection during the season.
However, amid the festive fervor, Twitter critic Daniel Regha cautioned couples and young lovers about the rising living costs associated with Valentine’s Day. He urged the youth to consider the financial implications of raising a child before indulging in intimate celebrations, highlighting the considerable expenses related to baby items and foods.
These observations reflect the evolving dynamics of romance and celebration in Nigeria, where despite economic challenges, the spirit of love and intimacy continues to thrive, driving demand for a diverse range of products.
