The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assured the public that its personnel will be fully deployed for the 2023 elections. This commitment was articulated in a statement issued by the Corps Spokesperson, Olusola Odumosu, on Thursday. The assurance comes amid concerns that NSCDC operatives might boycott the election coverage due to outstanding allowances from the 2022 governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti states.

The Corps acknowledged that personnel who participated in the Ekiti and Osun elections have yet to receive their allowances. In response, the management of NSCDC is taking proactive measures to ensure that these allowances are disbursed before the upcoming presidential election. The statement emphasized the Corps’ dedication to ensuring the safety and security of citizens during the electoral process, aiming to facilitate a free, fair, and transparent election.

Reports suggesting that NSCDC operatives would boycott the 2023 election coverage have been dismissed by the Corps. They confirmed that thousands of personnel will be deployed across various locations, including critical national infrastructures, to protect the Independent National Electoral Commission, its staff, and electoral materials. This deployment is part of their efforts to ensure a peaceful election environment.

Despite the delay in payments for the Ekiti and Osun elections, NSCDC management has taken significant steps to expedite the process. The Federal Government has recently released the allowances for the Osun election, which are currently being disbursed to the operatives involved. Additionally, assurances have been made that the allowances for the Ekiti election are also in the process of being released.

The timely release of these funds reflects the commitment of the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to prioritize staff welfare. Concerned about the initial delays, Dr. Audi established an action committee, led by the Director of Finance and Accounts, Comfort Danladi, to follow up with the Federal Ministry of Finance regarding the release of the necessary funds. The cooperation from the Ministry has prompted the Corps’ management to reassure personnel that the payment process has commenced, urging them to remain patient as it cannot be completed overnight.
