The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has taken action to assist victims of recent attacks in Mangu Local Government, Plateau. Mustapha Habib, the NEMA director-general, emphasized the importance of peace and announced plans for a post-crisis assessment of the affected communities.
During the distribution of relief materials, Mr. Habib expressed concern over the recurring attacks in the state and urged the people to embrace peace. He underscored the need for unity and collaboration to prevent further tragedies, stating that NEMA is committed to disaster prevention and reduction.
The relief materials distributed included 2,832 bags each of 10kg rice, beans, and garri, as well as other essential items such as vegetable oil, mattresses, mosquito nets, mats, and wax prints. Markus Artu, Transition Implementation chairman of Mangu, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government through NEMA for their prompt intervention and called for lasting peace in the region.
Sunday Abdu, the executive secretary of Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), affirmed their readiness to collaborate with NEMA and security agencies to facilitate the return of affected individuals to their homes.
The beneficiaries, representing diverse ethnic groups and religions, lauded the Federal Government for the assistance provided.
The NEMA’s outreach not only offered immediate relief but also highlighted the ongoing need for sustainable peace and long-term solutions in the region.
