NBA Condemns Gombe Government’s Demolition of Businesses

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Gombe State has criticized the actions of the Task Force on Gala Houses and Joints, denouncing the demolition of multiple business premises in the state. The establishments, including Runko and Fina Lodge, were targeted by the task force for their alleged involvement in immoral activities.

The NBA chairman, Benjamin Sati, described the demolitions as “insensitive and careless,” emphasizing the absence of due process and cautioning against the promotion of lawlessness. Sati stressed that any demolitions must adhere to legal procedures and not result in the unlawful seizure of legitimately acquired property.

In a statement entitled ‘Demolition spree of February 14, 2024, by the Task Force on Gala Houses and Joints in Gombe: The position of the NBA,’ Sati urged the state government to investigate the task force’s actions and ensure appropriate compensation for affected business owners.

Task force chairman Bitrus Bilal defended the demolitions, citing the presence of unlawful establishments engaged in illegal and immoral activities. Bilal cautioned against further unlawful behavior while affirming the task forceโ€™s commitment to upholding law and order.
