The Senate has given the green light to the appointment of 17 individuals as Commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC), from a total of 19 nominees selected by President Bola Tinubu. The confirmation took place following the endorsement of the screening report by the Committee on National Identity Card and Population at the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday. The report was presented by the committee’s chairman, Sen. Abdul Ningi (PDP Bauchi). According to Mr. Ningi, 17 out of the 19 nominees appeared for the screening, with the nominees representing Ogun and Ondo states being absent due to recent political developments in their respective states. Despite this, the committee meticulously scrutinized the remaining 17 nominees and found them to possess suitable qualifications for the appointment. The Senate subsequently confirmed the nominees, consisting of Emmanuel Eke (Abia), Dr. Clifford Zirra (Adamawa), Chidi Ezeoke (Anambra), Isa Buratai (Borno), Alex Ukam (Cross River), Blessyn Brume-Maguha (Delta), Dr. Jeremiah Ogbonna Nwankwegu (Ebonyi), Dr. Tony Alyejina (Edo), Ejike Ezeh (Enugu), Abubakar Damburam (Gombe), Prof. Uba Nnabue (Imo), Sa’adatu Garba (Kaduna), Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa (Kano), Yori Afolabi (Kogi), Mary Afan (Plateau), Saany Sale (Taraba), and Ogiri Henry (Rivers).
