Ivory Coast President Grants Pardon to 51 Prisoners, Including General Dogbo Blé

In a significant move towards reconciliation and peace-building, President Alassane Ouattara of Ivory Coast has granted presidential pardons to 51 individuals, both civilians and military personnel. Among those who have received clemency are General Dogbo Blé Brunot and Koné Kamaraté Souleymane, also known as Soul To Soul, who held important positions during the post-electoral crises in the country.

The announcement of the pardons came on Thursday, February 22, 2024, following a meeting of the Security Council chaired by President Ouattara. Fidèle Sarassoro, the executive secretary of the Security Council, revealed that the pardons were part of the President’s commitment to consolidating peace in Ivory Coast.

Among the notable figures granted presidential pardon are General Dogbo Blé Bruno, Gnatoa Katet Paulin, Kassé kouamé Jean Baptiste, and Koné Kamarate Souleymane, with close ties to Guillaume Soro, the former Prime Minister and President of the National Assembly.

Additionally, President Ouattara has instructed the Minister of Justice to facilitate the provisional release of six individuals who were in preventive detention for offenses related to attacks on state security. Moreover, immediate measures are being taken to construct a memorial honoring the victims of the past crises in Ivory Coast.

This commemorative monument not only serves as a place of remembrance but also aims to inspire all Ivorians to strive for lasting peace, preventing the recurrence of such tragic events in the future.

This development reflects a significant step in the country’s journey towards reconciliation and stability, signaling a renewed commitment to healing the wounds of the past for a brighter future.
