Nigerian Troops Rescue 12 Kidnap Victims in Benue

Troops from Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), successfully rescued 12 kidnapped victims in Jootar village, Ukum LGA of Benue State. The renowned force commander, Major General Sunday Igbinomwanhia, announced this remarkable feat to journalists in Makurdi on Friday. The rescue mission, carried out on February 21, was a result of actionable intelligence.

The 12 victims, originally en route from Imo to Adamawa State, fell prey to kidnappers who opportunistically struck at the deserted Federal Police Highway checkpoint. However, upon encountering the well-equipped OPWS troops, the kidnappers swiftly fled, abandoning their victims. In addition to the rescue operation, the troops managed to recover an 18-seater bus bearing the serial number 212 and registration number GKA-371XA from Taraba Express International, Taraba State.

Major General Igbinomwanhia emphasized OPWS’s unwavering dedication to collaborating with other security agencies to eliminate criminal elements across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States. He reassured the public of OPWS’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the lives and belongings of all law-abiding citizens within the Joint Task Force Joint Operations Area.

This successful rescue mission serves as a testament to the tireless commitment of Nigerian troops in ensuring the safety and security of the populace.
