NDLEA Busts Drug Syndicate, Arrests Traffickers Across Nigeria

In a series of successful operations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) cracked down on a widespread drug syndicate, apprehending multiple suspects across various states in Nigeria.

A 67-year-old man, described as a grandfather, was nabbed in Magbon, Ogun, with a staggering 57kg of Indian hemp in his possession. Seized alongside were 2,700 tramadol pills and 231 bottles of Codeine syrup.

NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed that a 24-year-old sales girl was arrested in Benin, where a drug joint was raided. The subsequent arrest of the joint’s owner revealed a 36-year-old commander of a local vigilante group.

The agency’s crackdown extended to Badagry, Lagos, where 179kg of Indian hemp was confiscated. In Bagga, Borno, a 25-year-old woman was apprehended with cocaine and heroin. Furthermore, a 26-year-old and a 22-year-old male suspect were caught with illicit drugs in Maiduguri.

In a separate incident on Jegga-Sokoto Road in Kebbi, NDLEA intercepted nearly 45,000 pills of psychotropic drugs destined for Zamfara, seized from a 25-year-old and a 54-year-old.

Another arrest was made in Kaduna, targeting a 35-year-old farmer cultivating tomatoes alongside Indian hemp in Birnin Yero, Igabi Local Government Area. Meanwhile, two suspects carrying 99 blocks of Indian hemp while en route from Lagos to Kano were intercepted in the FCT, weighing 37kg.

Notably, a significant bust occurred in Onitsha, Anambra, where a suspect was caught with 483 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup concealed in two 50-litre containers. Subsequent investigations led to the apprehension of the syrup’s actual owner.
