Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke said his mandate to govern will be revalidated through the same judicial process that annulled his victory in the July 16 governorship election. He made the remarks while receiving the “Unit to Unit Ambassadors,” a campaign organization from the Osun West Senatorial District.
The Election Petition Tribunal, chaired by Justice Tertsea Kume, recently nullified Adeleke’s win and declared Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress the winner. Adeleke, however, emphasized the crucial role of the judiciary in strengthening Nigerian democracy, citing numerous judicial interventions that have helped stabilize the nation. He urged members of the group to continue their campaign, assuring them that he is governing Osun to fulfill the people’s will and aspirations.
“We trust the judiciary to right the wrong and deepen our democracy,” Adeleke said. “I am a beneficiary of judicial intervention—I will never forget how the courts cleared me of forgery allegations. A strong democracy requires us to regard the judiciary as an indispensable arbiter.” He added that his team is appealing the decision and remains confident of obtaining justice.
Adeleke called for calm and peaceful daily activities, acknowledging the emotional impact of the judgment on Osun residents. “We must express our disagreement only through the judicial process, which is why an appeal exists. We have solid grounds to appeal, and we are pursuing it,” he said.
Concluding his statement, delivered through his spokesman Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke urged the campaign to keep working “unit to unit.” “By God and man, our mandate will be revalidated through the same judicial process,” he affirmed.
