Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged Nigerians to hold him accountable if he fails to fulfill his campaign promises should he be elected president. Speaking at a town‑hall meeting in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, Obi described the 2023 general election as an opportunity for ordinary Nigerians to reclaim their country and shift the economy from consumption to production.

He acknowledged that rescuing Nigeria from its current state of decay is a difficult task, but one that can be achieved with the cooperation of citizens who desire a new Nigeria. Obi criticized previous administrations for driving the nation into insecurity, poverty, industrial unrest, hunger and suffering. He emphasized that the 2023 election is not about ethnicity, tribalism or religion, noting that Nigerians of all tribes, ethnic groups and faiths shop at the same markets and face the same challenges of insecurity, unemployment and hardship.

Obi clarified that he is not contesting the election because he is an Igbo man, but because he is a Nigerian who believes he is the most qualified candidate to lead a nation eager for change. He called for the creation of a Nigeria in which everyone can be proud of the green passport, a shift from consumption to production, an end to ASUU strikes, and timely graduation for students.

He concluded by urging voters to support the Labour Party on election day and to stay afterward to ensure that their votes are properly accounted for and recorded.
