APC Urges Plateau State Speaker to Swear in 16 Declared Winners after Appeal Court Verdict

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State is once again calling on the state assembly speaker, Gabriel Dewan, to swear in the 16 APC and Labour Party members who were declared winners by the Appeal Court. The APC assistant state publicity secretary, Nimzing Pyennap, emphasized the importance of promptly swearing in the new members, as the appellate court has reaffirmed their victory in the election.

Previously, the speaker had delayed swearing in the new members pending the court’s verdict on a suit filed by the sacked 16 PDP lawmakers. However, the Appeal Court recently dismissed the suit and imposed a fine of N128 million on the sacked lawmakers for attempting to review its judgment.

The 16 PDP lawmakers have been discontented since their removal by the appellate court, which was later deemed a mistake following the Supreme Court’s ruling on similar cases. Despite their efforts to challenge the judgment, they have been unsuccessful in overturning the decision.

It is crucial for the speaker to uphold the court’s ruling and swear in the newly declared winners without further delay. The resolution of this issue is essential for the effective functioning of the state assembly and the representation of the people’s interests.
