In a shocking turn of events, a woman named Rukayat has been taken into police custody in Lagos State for allegedly poisoning her one-year-old daughter with an insecticide. The incident, which took place in the Oworonshoki area, unfolded at around 11 am on a Friday.

According to a police source, the infant had epilepsy, and Rukayat decided to poison her because she could no longer cope with the situation. She confessed to the heinous act later that same day at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), stating that she wanted to “rest from the stress.”

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and revealed that the mother has been arrested while investigations are ongoing. Detectives from the division were swiftly dispatched to the hospital, where they found the baby receiving treatment.

This tragic incident brings to mind a similar case from last year, where a 39-year-old woman named Lilian Nwarache in the Iwaya area of Lagos State took her own life by drinking an insecticide due to frustration with an illness.

As the investigation continues, the authorities are working diligently to uncover the full extent of this heartbreaking situation. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
