Wake-Wake Association Urges Governor to Lift Tricycle Curfew for Ramadan

The Wake-Wake Association in Taraba State is calling on Governor Agbu Kefas to reconsider the curfew imposed on tricycle operators in Jalingo, the state capital. The group, led by chairman Umar Sani Bello, is highlighting the challenges faced by tricycle operators due to the nighttime restrictions, especially with the holy month of Ramadan approaching.

The state government had mandated tricycle operators to cease operations from 8pm to 6am daily in response to security concerns in the area. However, the Wake-Wake Association is emphasizing the impact of this curfew on the Muslim community, particularly during essential religious activities like Tafsir and Tahajjudi prayers.

Tafsir sessions, which involve Quranic exegesis, often run late into the evening, while Tahajjudi prayers, observed during the last 10 nights of Ramadan, take place in the early hours of the morning. The current curfew limits access to mosques and hinders the community’s ability to participate in these significant religious gatherings.

The group is advocating for the lifting of the curfew to allow for unrestricted movement, especially during the late evening and early morning hours, to ensure that individuals can fulfill their religious obligations without obstacles. They are hopeful that Governor Kefas will consider their plea and take prompt action to alleviate the burden on tricycle operators during the holy month of Ramadan.

As the Muslim community prepares to observe Ramadan, the Wake-Wake Association is urging for understanding and flexibility in the enforcement of the curfew, recognizing the importance of religious practices and communal gatherings during this sacred time. Governor Kefas is urged to prioritize the needs of the Muslim population and make adjustments to accommodate their religious observances.
