A spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. Daniel Bwala, said that Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who leads the aggrieved G‑5 PDP governors, has been deceiving his four colleagues about the presidential candidate they would collectively support. Bwala alleged that Wike was actually backing the All Progressives Congress candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, but could not reveal this because he had given his colleagues the impression that he supported the Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

The four governors in question are Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State. They had vowed not to support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, unless national chairman Iyorchia Ayu stepped aside.

In an interview with Saturday, Bwala described Wike as “dishonest and inconsequential,” noting that he reneged on his promise to announce the G‑5 and Integrity Group’s preferred candidate for fear of outright expulsion by the party. He explained that openly supporting another party’s candidate would constitute proven anti‑party activity. Bwala recalled that Wike had pledged to announce their preferred candidate in January; when a BBC correspondent reminded him of the pledge, Wike responded that January had not ended. Now that January is over, Wike claims he never disclosed the methodology for revealing their preferred candidate and says he has told his supporters whom to vote for.

According to Bwala, Wike cannot announce his candidate because he knows the consequences: the party could expel him for gross misconduct and anti‑party activities. By making his colleagues believe he was behind Peter Obi, Wike cannot now openly declare support for the APC candidate, since the other four governors do not want Tinubu.
