JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede announced on Friday that there will be no extension of the registration period for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The one‑month registration window closes on 14 February. Oloyede made the statement while inspecting several JAMB computer‑based centres in Osogbo, Osun State, a visit aimed at preventing extortion of applicants.

During the inspection, some parents approached the officials requesting an extension, citing difficulties caused by the recent redesign of naira notes, which had led to a cash shortage and prevented them from purchasing their children’s personal identification numbers (PINs). Oloyede responded that he travels across the country to monitor the registration exercise and to address any infractions. “We receive reports from the states and have intelligence on the ground. If we learn of incidents—such as what happened at the Osun State College of Education—we will go there with our officials,” he said.

He noted that, in the past, candidates complained of extortion, but JAMB has now made such practices “almost impossible.” The board has deployed both human and technological measures to detect violations, and there have been no reports of signal problems this year. “We are improving on last year’s efforts and are present in every part of the country to ensure strict compliance with the regulations,” Oloyede added.

Regarding the request for an extension, Oloyede emphasized that no extension will be considered. “Anyone withdrawing money is not following our instructions. You transfer money, and when you do that, you receive the PIN; we do not sell a physical PIN.”
