Tanzanian National Sentenced to 12 Years for Drug Importation in Seychelles

In a recent development in the Seychelles, a 50-year-old Tanzanian national has been handed a 12-year prison sentence for the importation of a controlled substance. The Seychelles Police announced this decision, highlighting the country’s strict stance against drug trafficking.

The individual in question, Shabani Kizamba Shabani, was apprehended on September 26, 2022, upon his arrival in Seychelles via a Qatar Airways flight. During a routine search by police and airport officials, a significant amount of cocaine weighing 984.78 grammes was discovered in his possession.

The Seychelles Misuse of Drug Act, 2016, outlines severe penalties for those involved in the importation of Class A drugs. In this case, Shabani Kizamba Shabani faced the maximum sentence of 12 years in prison, along with the possibility of a fine reaching up to SCR 1 million ($74,200).
