Deputy Governor Visits Stampede Survivors at Nasarawa State University

Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, has made a compassionate visit to the survivors of a tragic stampede at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK). The survivors are currently undergoing medical treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, following the stampede that occurred on a fateful Friday morning. The stampede unfolded at the Convocation Square of the state-owned institution, just moments before the distribution of palliative measures intended to alleviate the impact of subsidy removal in the country. Tragically, the incident claimed lives, including those of some undergraduate students. Governor Abdullahi Sule has attributed this heartbreaking incident to suspected hoodlums and misguided students. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mallam Ibrahim Addra, the governor has pledged to apprehend and prosecute anyone found responsible for these reprehensible acts. The governor had recently launched the distribution of palliatives, consisting of two bags of 7.5 kilograms of rice and N5,000, to students of tertiary institutions in the state. However, the initiative, which commenced on Monday, March 18, with students of the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia, was marred by irregularities. Many beneficiaries reported receiving rice without the accompanying monetary support. This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by communities during these trying times.
