Nnamdi Kanu’s Family Raises Alarm: Urgent Call for Cardiologist in DSS Custody

The family of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has sounded the alarm about his critical illness while in the custody of the Department of State Services. They are urgently calling for a cardiologist to attend to him and are pleading with President Bola Tinubu to ensure he does not perish in DSS custody.

Kanu has been detained since 2021 after being brought back to Nigeria from Kenya. Despite his deteriorating health condition, his bail application was recently rejected by Justice Binta Nyako.

In a heartfelt statement, Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel, revealed the dire state of his brother’s health and emphasized the urgent need for medical intervention to prevent a major health crisis. The family expressed disappointment in the lack of action from political leaders in the South-East, accusing them of neglecting Kanu’s plight and allowing him to suffer in custody.

They questioned why Igbo political figures have not approached President Tinubu to discuss Kanu’s release, insinuating that some may be benefiting from his continued incarceration. The family condemned the abandonment of Kanu, who they believe is being punished for advocating for the freedom of the Igbo people.

As concerns grow for Kanu’s well-being, the family’s plea for medical attention and justice reverberates across the nation. It is a stark reminder of the human cost of political turmoil and the importance of upholding the rights and dignity of all individuals, regardless of their beliefs or affiliations.

The situation surrounding Nnamdi Kanu serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of human rights and the need for compassion and action in the face of adversity. Let us not forget the power of unity and empathy in times of crisis, as we strive to create a world where justice and humanity prevail.
